Apple Music

2 year olds

Apple Music is a lovely way for little ones to absorb and respond to music and the first course in our Yamaha Music School pathway. Start at 2 years old and see your child develop into a young musician as they progress through our courses.

The teachers are musicians themselves, trained and qualified by Yamaha. The curriculum is much more than a 'sing-along' or 'dance-along' to music - each activity has been carefully designed to tune in young ears to listen deeply, absorbing the elements of music in a natural, engaging, enjoyable way: just right for 2 year olds.

As with all Yamaha courses, this is a thoroughly-researched music education course of quality and depth. We limit classes to a maximum of 8 - children and parents often make lasting friendships here!

Overview

Timely Education: Apple Music lessons are designed especially for this age group with a careful balance of repetition and new materials, with songs, musical stories, rhythm and percussion instruments, play and movement, and there is also a short teacher recital included each lesson. Lessons come with materials so you can enjoy the music and beautiful illustrations at home too. Parents love watching how their children's responses to music develop over the course: it feels rather magical!

Musical expression: This course introduces children to the joy of music: through listening, singing, and moving, they absorb the characteristics and moods of different styles of music. Teachers guide children to feel what the music is saying, which helps to develop a musical as well as an emotional intelligence.

Group lessons: Sharing the experience with others helps to develop sensitivity and sociability with music at the core.

Apple Music is the very start of our Yamaha Music Education System which continues on to advanced and teacher levels with specially designed courses for the children as they progress. This course plants the seeds that the following courses in the Yamaha music education system build on.

Further information

  • Parents accompany their child to the lessons.

Please enjoy sharing the music experience with your child. The more you are engaged the more this better your child’s response will be. Even if your child doesn’t join in with all the actions - perhaps they are moving around the room - simply being in the class will allow them to absorb the music!

Please communicate about your child’s progress with your teacher - we love to hear about successes and we need to hear about concerns. We also welcome feedback in the office at any time: we are best reached by email.

  • Children do not use keyboards in this course. Keyboards are introduced in a friendly way in Music Wonderland when they are 3, but it is not until they start the Junior Music Course at 4 years old that one is required at home to practice between lessons.

You will need a device to stream the audio recordings. Please ensure that the children are listening to a high quality of sound at home (phone speakers are not satisfactory) Enjoy singing along with the songs and listening to the pieces!

My daughter has always been very responsive to music, but Apple Music really transformed her understanding of rhythm and of how music can make you feel different emotions.

She was transfixed by the piano recitals, thought the musical games were hilarious and danced all over the room when we started moving our feet.

Pupple is an adorable character who accompanies the children on their musical journey. We loved listening to the Apple Music CDs as a family, and all quickly found our favourite songs!
