Kathy Rushton

Trustee

Kathy joined Matrix Arts Centre in 2002 as a parent trustee after her youngest son started his first Yamaha course at the age of five. She was so struck by the teaching methods used and the fun which all the children had that she was enthusiastic to get involved when asked. Since then she has seen Matrix Arts Centre grow and become more streamlined, whilst always maintaining its charitable goal to offer music education to all, in some cases offering bursaries.

Coming from a non-musical background herself, Kathy values the 'music for life'  aspect Matrix Arts Centre offers all children. Following a history degree at St Andrews she took over her mother's shop for several years before joining the business development department of a large hotel chain. Then she spent ten years in Austria with her husband raising four children. She particularly appreciated the good start in music her older children were offered there. She found Matrix Arts Centre offered something comparable and even more unique in music education when the family returned to the UK.

Kathy then joined the administration of 'the European' which then became 'the Europa' school. Over the years she saw many children coming through the school who were learning their musicianship in Matrix Arts Centre. They had a musical confidence about them enabling them to perform in many areas.

Kathy is now retired and enjoys walking, travelling and continuing to support Matrix Arts Centre.
