Music Wonderland
3 year olds
Music Wonderland is a real treasure for us and our students. Lessons include singing, musical stories, movement and listening. The biggest difference between Music Wonderland and Apple Music is the introduction of playing keyboard games (once the children are settled into the class - about six weeks into the course). The music is fabulous, both emotional and engaging, and the course is beautifully illustrated.
Overview
Timely education: Music Wonderland lessons are designed especially for this age group which focuses on instilling the foundations of music, providing the children with a solid understanding of the ‘blacks and whites’ of music (such as loud and quiet, fast and slow, smooth and detached etc.).
Musical expression: The children experience a whole range of musical styles and express this with actions, singing, and playing musical games on the keyboard, in an engaging way.
Group lessons: Sharing the experience with others helps to develop sensitivity and sociability with music at the core.
It's exciting and absorbing for children... and parents love it too!

Parents accompany their child to the lessons. Please enjoy sharing the music with your child by joining in with all the activities - singing and doing the actions and so forth.
Children of this age absorb so much just from being in the class. The response from each child depends very much on the individual and their stage of development. Even if your child isn’t joining in with all the actions to every piece, they are learning so much from being in the group and also observing you participating! If they see you enjoying the lessons they will be happy too!
We ask parents to sign up for the first term so they can see their child’s true reaction. Initially they may just observe or cuddle their adult. It’s quite rare to see a big response in the first lesson - they sometimes need time to settle!
Please communicate about your child’s progress with your teacher - we love to hear about successes and we need to hear about concerns. We also welcome feedback in the office at any time: we are best reached by email.

Children do not need an instrument at home for this course. They will need one when they start the Junior Music Course.
You will need a device to stream the audio recordings. Please ensure that the children are listening to a high quality of sound at home (phone speakers are not satisfactory) Enjoy singing along with the songs and listening to the pieces!

Children aged 4 can move into the Junior Music Course (2 years) where there is a bigger focus on playing the keyboard, including practising between lessons
Children progress onto the Junior Extension Course (2 years), where many other subjects are studied including composition, keyboard harmony and accompaniment, theory, and playing ensembles
The Junior Advanced Course (2 years) is where piano lessons are introduced alongside the group lessons each week
The Advanced Extension Course (3 years) continues with a more academic focus as well as the practical musicanship subjects - including enjoying advanced ensembles
After this, the students graduate from the Yamaha Music School: if your child starts in the Junior Music Course they will be around 13 at this point! We invite YMS graduates to join in ensembles in our annual concert every year and many continue their piano lessons with us until they finish school. We love hearing what our YMS graduates are doing - you can see some of their stories on our social media
